Staring down a final exam and doing nervous math in your head? Stop guessing. Tell this calculator three numbers — your current grade, the grade you want, and how much the final is worth — and it will tell you exactly what score you need to walk out with.
Maybe you need an 82% to keep your B. Maybe you only need a 40% to pass (hello, relief). Or maybe the math says it’s out of reach — in which case, better to know now so you can talk to your teacher about extra credit instead of finding out later.

You need on the final
How the math works
Your final grade is a weighted average: your current grade counts for everything except the final, and the final counts for its weight. Flip that around and the score you need is:
Needed = (Desired − Current × (1 − Weight)) ÷ Weight
So if you have an 85%, want a 90%, and the final is worth 30%: (90 − 85 × 0.70) ÷ 0.30 = 101.7%. Ouch — that’s the “aim for extra credit” scenario. The calculator does all of this instantly, no algebra required.
Play with the what-if slider
Below the answer, drag the “what-if” slider to any final-exam score and watch your overall grade update live. It’s the fastest way to answer questions like “what if I totally bomb it?” (spoiler: usually less catastrophic than you think) or “what if I actually study this time?”
Make it a quest, not a worry
Once you know your number, turn it into a plan: set your goal in our grade calculator and it will tell you exactly what to score on your remaining work. Students who know their target study smarter — now you’re one of them.
Frequently asked questions
What if I need more than 100% on the final?
Then the final alone can’t get you there. Talk to your teacher now about extra credit, corrections, or dropped assignments — and use the grade calculator with the “drop lowest” power-up to see how much that helps.
What if I need less than 0%?
Congratulations — you’ve already locked in your goal. You could skip the final entirely (but maybe still show up).
Does this work for weighted classes?
The math is the same; just make sure the “current grade” you enter already reflects your class weights. For AP, Honors, and IB courses, try our weighted GPA calculator.
